In 2026, communities across the country are marking the 250th anniversary of the United States with events that bring history, service, and national reflection into public view. One of the most visible celebrations is Sail250®, a global gathering of tall ships and military vessels created to honor America’s Semiquincentennial.
C. Forbes was honored to contribute to this historic moment through custom commemorative recognition pieces for Sail250® Virginia, which welcomed an international fleet to Norfolk and the Hampton Roads waterfront from June 19-23, 2026.
Sail250® Virginia brought together tall ships, military vessels, character ships, visiting sailors, officers, dignitaries, and spectators from around the world. According to VA250, the Virginia event was expected to include more than 60 ships from 20 countries as part of the broader commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. The fleet’s arrival included the traditional Parade of Sail into Hampton Roads and downtown Norfolk, continuing the region’s long connection to maritime history and public celebration. VA250
For Norfolk, the event also carried special local meaning. Sail250® Virginia coincided with the 50th annual Norfolk Harborfest and included public ship visitation, waterfront programming, live entertainment, family activities, Juneteenth celebrations, and fireworks along the downtown waterfront.

The commemorative plaques created for Sail250® Virginia were designed to recognize participating vessels and preserve the significance of the occasion. Each piece paired a custom medallion with an engraved plate, presented in a navy Sail250® Virginia gift box. The result was a formal keepsake worthy of the ships, crews, and leaders who helped bring this once-in-a-generation maritime celebration to life.
One featured plaque recognized the B/E Juan Sebastián de Elcano, a historic Spanish Navy training ship and one of the notable international vessels participating in the Sail250® journey. The presentation combines classic wood, engraved brass, and a detailed commemorative coin, creating a piece that feels both ceremonial and enduring.

After wrapping up in Norfolk, the Sail250® celebration continued north to Maryland. Sail250® Maryland & Airshow Baltimore runs June 24-30, 2026, bringing international tall ships, U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels, aviation demonstrations, Blue Angels appearances, public festivals, and educational programming to Baltimore’s waterfront.
Sail250® is part of a five-city national maritime celebration, with events in New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore, New York/New Jersey, and Boston. Together, these ports are helping America mark 250 years not only by looking back, but by welcoming the world to its harbors.
At C. Forbes, we believe recognition matters most when it carries the weight of the moment. Whether honoring a ship, a crew, a sponsor, a public servant, or the volunteers behind a major event, a well-made commemorative piece gives people something tangible to carry forward.
Sail250® Virginia was more than a waterfront festival. It was a gathering of nations, a celebration of maritime tradition, and a reminder that history is often made by the people who show up to serve, lead, organize, and remember.
We are proud to have played a small part in helping commemorate it.
